Moose/Caribou Application Process

If the hunter is NOT eligible to hunt for one or more reasons, they will not be able to click on the application options on the 'File New Application' page. Any application that can be submitted will have an active link and be underlined. By clicking on the link, the user will be guided through the online application process.

Remember, once you submit your application successfully you will no longer see the active link for Moose/Caribou Applications from the 'File New Application' page. This application can be modified at any time prior to the application deadline date, but in order to do that you will have to click on the application from the 'Applications/Returns' menu. You must complete all questions until you receive a new confirmation page.

See below for list of criteria used to determine hunter's eligibility. If you feel that you are eligible and you cannot submit an application, please call one of the following locations for assistance or email wildlifelicense@gov.nl.ca. Include your name, NL Driver's Licence/NL Photo ID number and telephone number.

  • Corner Brook: 709-637-2025
  • St. John's: 709-729-2630

Enter Draw Screen:

On this screen the hunter has to decide if they want to enter their application for the upcoming Moose/Caribou Draw, either for a licence or to advance priority pool only. If you would like to have your application entered into the draw for a licence, click YES. If you would like to advance your priority pool only, click NO. Press the continue button to move on. If you decided to advance your priority pool only, you are finished and you will receive a confirmation message telling you that your application has been submitted along with the confirmation number and confirmation date. Please print or save the confirmation message for your records as it will be required for any future inquiries on your application with the Wildlife Division.

If you have entered a party application for a licence and then change it to advance your priority pool, your co-hunter's application will also be deleted. If the co-hunter wants an application entered so they can advance their priority pools or apply for a licence, then they will have to enter their own big game application on their Wildlife Information Management System account.

Party or Single/Area Choices/Licence Type Screen:

The hunter has three choices to make on this screen. The first is to decide if this will be a single or party application. Click on the appropriate radio button. Next you will have to choose the hunting area(s) you would like to hunt in. Please remember that choice #1 is your more preferred choice, and that each choice must be unique. You DO NOT have to make selections for all 8 choices, but only choose those areas you want to hunt. Your last task on this screen is to decide what type(s) of licence you want your application to be considered for. You can select one or both of the listed options. When you are satisfied with your choices on this screen, click continue. If you are applying for a party licence, you will go to another screen. If it is a single application then you are done and you will receive your confirmation message. Please print or save the confirmation message for your records as it will be required for any future inquiries with the Wildlife Division.

Co-Hunter Screen (Party Applications ONLY):

You are considered the 'main' applicant and you will have to select your 'partner' if you wish to submit a Party Application. Before you can do this, you will have to get the co-hunter's NL Driver's Licence/NL Photo ID number, co-hunter's first name, and co-hunter's last name. All information must exactly match the records of the Wildlife Division. Remember that this person cannot be included as a main hunter or co-hunter on any other application for the current year.

To add your co-hunter to the application, enter their NL Driver's Licence/NL Photo ID number, first name, and last name and click continue. If this person exists and does not have another application in the system, your application will be submitted and you are finished. Please print or save the confirmation message for your records as it will be required for any future inquiries with the Wildlife Division.

Are you or your co-hunter eligible to hunt?

Prior to having your application successfully submitted, there are a number of things that are checked first. If for any of the following reasons, you and/or the co-hunter are not eligible to hunt, your application will not be entered for this year's moose/caribou draw.

  • Hunter and/or co-hunter must have an ACTIVE person status.
  • Hunter and/or co-hunter can NOT be on another application for that year.
  • Hunter and/or co-hunter must be a RESIDENT of Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • Hunter and/or co-hunter must have completed the proper courses by the set deadline.
  • Hunter and/or co-hunter must be 16 years of age or over by August 31 of application year.
  • Hunter and/or co-hunter must NOT have a violation against them.

Once an application has been filed, you can view the details from the 'Applications/Returns' menu. There is a 'Status' for each application and the Checkmark symbol indicates your application has been filed without errors.

Note: If you have been logged into the website for 20 minutes without any activity, you will be 'timed out' and have to login again. This is an added security feature to ensure your personal information is protected.

When the deadline date for moose/caribou applications has been reached, users are ONLY able to view their application/licence information.

When you have completed your tasks, please use the sign out button to end your session.

Guide Renewal Process

If you are an eligible guide, you will see a 'Guide Renewal' menu item when you log onto the Wildlife Information Management System. This menu will show you the current status of any guide renewals that can be paid for along with the necessary steps to pay for your annual renewals. Depending on when you access the site, you will see up to 2 renewals that can be paid for, thus allowing the Wildlife Division to issue and mail your guide licence. Between January 1 and December 31 you will be permitted to submit a payment for your guide renewal for the current year. As of September 1st, you will see an additional link that will allow you to pay for your guide renewal for the following year. Although you have paid for your guide renewal for the following year, your licence will not be generated until January of the following year.

To access the ePayment screens, you must click on the 'year' for which you would like to submit your renewal. (i.e. 2024). You will then be taken to the renewal detail screen that will display some basic information for this specific renewal. You will have 2 options at this point. You can either close out of the renewal process without paying and return to the 'Personal Information' page, or you can click on the 'submit renewal' button or $ to begin the ePayment process. If you have already paid for this renewal the 'submit renewal' button will appear greyed out and cannot be used. You can also select any other menu item to take you to a different page.

Selecting the 'submit renewal' button will take you to the ePayment screens. After successful payment, please print and retain the successful payment confirmation message for your records as it may be required for future inquiries with the Wildlife Division.

Note: If you have been logged into the website for 20 minutes without any activity, you will be 'timed out' and have to login again. This is an added security feature to ensure your personal information is protected.

Application/Renewal Status

You will notice at the bottom of the application table on the 'Applications/Returns' page that there are 3 symbols used to identify the status of you applications for the current year. These symbols will also be used on the guide renewal screens to display the status of your renewal payments. These symbols are as follows:

  • Checkmark Application successfully submitted: Application has been entered with all the necessary information and is ready to be processed for a licence.
  • X Application has Error(s): Application has errors and must be corrected in order to be processed. If it is still within deadline dates, this application can be modified online. If it is after deadline, then you must contact the Wildlife Division to have errors corrected.
  • $ Payment is required: The application has been entered successfully but there is a payment required. This can apply to any online application whereby the process was ended prior to the payment being made. To make the payment, simply click on the payment symbol ($) and it will take you directly into the payment process. If completed successfully, the payment symbol ($) will be replaced with a successful symbol (Checkmark) meaning your application is ready to be processed.

Please check your Newfoundland and Labrador Hunting and Trapping Guide for any additional information. The FAQ page will also provide you with additional information that may be of assistance. If you have any questions, you can contact any of the Wildlife Division offices listed in the back of your guide.
